This is a recipe I have been making for years. My kids go crazy for them when I make them. I have to keep them at bay just to get them to the table. They are so tasty and are fairly easy to make. They just take a minute – by minute, I mean a tedious minute putting them together.

Fresh ginger and the sesame oil take the flavor up a notch. I actually have to keep myself from eating the filling. You’ll start with a chicken breast, garlic, and onion. Then add soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and finally the cabbage (cole slaw mix in this case – see – easy).

The next part is where it gets tedious. You have to fill the won-ton wrappers, seal them, and then fry them. I do six at a time in my small frying pan with about 1/4 inch of oil.

Put on some good music and jam out while filling, sealing and frying. Also, try not to eat them all!

I use the entire package of won-ton wrappers and it feeds my family of 6. I serve it with stir fry and rice – it’s a fun meal. The ginger sauce is optional. I like and like to pour it on my rice as well. Andy usually pulls out the BBQ sauce and ranch to dip his in – whatever you fancy!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ lb chicken cut into small pieces
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger
  • 3 cup cole slaw mix
  • 1 package won-ton wrappers
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • vegetable oil for frying

Ginger Sauce

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • cup water
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • ¼ tsp fresh ginger
  • dash garlic powder
  • dash onion powder
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken into small pieces. Heat the 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet or wok on medium high heat. Place the chicken, onion, and garlic in the oil and cook. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger and cook until the chicken is cooked through.

  2. Add the cole slaw mix and cook until it is soft and wilted.

  3. Fill the won-ton wrappers with about 1 Tbsp of the chicken mixture. Get your finger wet with water and rub water on two sides of the wrapper along a right angle. Pull up the opposite side of the wrapper making a triangle. Press the sides together sealing the won-ton.

  4. While you are doing this, heat some oil in a frying pan or you can use a fryer. I put about 1/4 inch of oil in a small frying pan and heat on medium. When the oil is hot, place 4-6 pot stickers in the oil. Fry until golden brown and then flip. Place on a paper towel when done. Serve with ginger sauce.

Ginger Sauce

  1. Whisk together all ingredients and serve in a small bowl.
