If you are looking for a new sweet bread recipe to try out, here it is.  This bread is so packed with flavor and topped with a crunchy orange glaze, it will become a favorite rather quickly.

Poppy Seed Bread

A blend of vanilla, almond, and butter flavors bring this poppy seed bread to life.

Ingredients

Poppy Seed Bread

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1 1/8 cups oil
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp butter flavoring
  • 1 1/2 tsp almond flavoring
  • 2 Tbsp poppy seeds

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup orange juice concentrate
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp butter flavoring
  • 1/2 tsp almond flavoring

Instructions

Poppy Seed Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray two loaf pans with cooking spray and sprinkle with flour. Mix together dry ingredients in a large bowl. Make a well.

  2. In another small bowl, slightly beat the eggs and then add the oil, milk, and flavorings.  Pour the wet ingredients into the well of the dry ingredients and fold in until combined.

  3. Pour into loaf pans and bake for one hour or until a knife inserted comes out clean.  As soon as the loaves are done, poke with a fork several times all over the top of the bread.  Pour the glaze over the bread while it is still hot.  Let cool 45 minutes and then remove from the pan.  You will need to run a knife along the edge to loosen a bit.  

Glaze

  1. While the loaves are baking, mix together the glaze ingredients and microwave for one minute.  Stir and let stand until the bread is done.
