Orange Breakfast Crescents

Are you in search of the perfect dish to bring to a brunch? Not sure how often any of you reading my blog go to brunches, but if you do, this is the perfect thing to bring. They are delicious with a lot of flavor packed into a small crescent roll. The fact that we are using pre-made crescent rolls makes them super easy to make.

You’ll start by mixing the cream cheese filling. With only four ingredients, they come together quick. The original recipe only makes eight so I have doubled it here because eight of these disappear as soon as you set them down. You’ll mix softened cream cheese with sugar, orange zest and almond extract. When you spread it on the unrolled crescent roll, you will leave 1/4 inch around the edge free. Roll it up beginning with the wide end and sort of seal the edges with your fingers so the cream cheese mixture does not leak out while baking.

While the crescents are baking, you’ll mix the topping. Once the crescents are done baking, spoon the topping across the hot rolls. It will melt down the sides and create the tastiest orange almond glaze. You won’t be able to eat just one!

Ingredients

  • 6 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 6 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 2 pkg 8-count refrigerated crescent rolls

Topping

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp orange juice
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 2 Tbsp butter melted
  • ¼ tsp almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar, zest and almond extract.

  2. Unroll the crescent rolls. Place about one tablespoon of the mixture on each triangle, dividing evenly among the 16 rolls. Spread out the mixture leaving ¼ inch free on each side.

  3. Roll up the dough beginning with the wide end. Seal the edges of the dough with your fingers so the cream cheese mixture does not leak out.

  4. Place the crescent rolls on the baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. While they are baking, prepare the topping.

Topping

  1. Melt the butter in the microwave for 30 seconds. Add the remaining ingredients and mix together until combined. When the crescent rolls are done, spoon the topping along the tops, allowing to melt down the sides. Serve warm.
